Runaway in the Snow

Pacific NW with a blanket of snow is very beautiful. We do not usually get snow in Vancouver WA. On Friday evening 2/12/2021, snow came down steadily and our dog Solly decided he wants to hop a 6-foot fence to go after some critters.  We called, we shined flashlight, we turned on floodlight, we used his beeper collar. All to no avail. The dog disappeared.

As we were wondering whether he would get run over on the road, we realized that most people are staying in and not too much traffic on the road. Thank God for the blessing.  The second danger is, he might freeze to death out there. Solly is a husky/mix, he has very thick fur. He might get cold, but the chance of him dying by cold is pretty rare. As snow is piling up, we decided that he will have to either come back by himself or maybe someone will find him and bring him into Humane Society.  I trolled through online Lost and Found Pets and SW Humane Society.  Nothing. Snow kept falling and it is getting thick. Maybe he won’t recognize his own home to come back.

Dinner time came and went and his raw beef bone and chicken drum sticks were getting cold in the bone broth. Did I say raw bones and drum sticks? Yes, I did. That’s what we are feeding him. If you are interested in knowing more, link here.

After three and half hour, the damn dog is back. We were very angry at him but we also thank God that at age 14, he can still hop a fence, trek through 8 inches of snow for 3.5 hours and came home. He was very cold and wet and thirsty.  A patch of his fur from underneath his belly missing, and he was scratching up a storm. The belly is reddish and he has rash. There’s a punctual wound on his belly but he has thick skin so he did not bleed.  I believe he was stuck somewhere and probably got into a patch of poison oak or poison ivy because he was just scratching up a storm (hopefully not another snow storm).

I handed him his cold dinner and slipped in a dose of homeopathic Radican.
